Samikshya’s success story

Dear DHN family,

It’s my immense pleasure to share my success story of becoming a future doctor.

I am Samikshya Shrestha, a 21-year-old girl from Aampipal, Gorkha. We are a family of six – dad, mom, and four siblings. My dad is retired from the army and now my parents are farmers.

Here, I want to share how I became one of the girls supported by DHN.

I studied at Shree Janata Secondary School up to class 7 along with my siblings. I used to get good grades, but my parents couldn’t afford our higher studies. During this time, DHN family members, including Mrs. Ursula, visited our home and offered to support me. That’s how I received sponsorship starting from class 3.

My parents were so happy — it helped ease their financial burden. That support means very much to me.

I completed my studies up to class 10 at The Old Capital Higher Secondary School, where every single penny was provided by DHN. I got good grades there. I think if I was not in that school, I would not be where I am today.

DHN had planned to support us with vocational training, but I wanted to study Science at the +2 level. My principal, Mr. Janak Sir, supported me in this decision
and I am very grateful for that. Thanks to his recommendation, DHN agreed to support my Science studies at the D.A.V. College.

I worked hard to get good scores because it was my dream to become a doctor. I prepared for the Common Entrance Examination, which is the golden gate for every candidate who wants to enter the medical field. Out of about 18.000 students, I ranked 477 in MBBS, 250 in BDS, and 52 in Nursing.

Because of my father's army background, I had the opportunity to receive a full scholarship in Nursing. But I chose MBBS – it was always my dream.

The costs of studying MBBS were almost impossible for my family to afford. I planned to drop that year, but my parents, DHN, relatives, and teachers encouraged me. It was uncertain whether I’d get a scholarship. Despite that, DHN stepped forward and promised to support me and cover half of the costs.

I got admitted to the Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences and at the end of that month, I got the news of having a 80% scholarship. At first, I found it very difficult to study MBBS. But I studied harder and passed the first and second year with good grades. Now I am in my third year.

Here, I want to give a message to all students supported by DHN: study hard. DHN never leaves you halfway – dedication is equally important. Give your 100% to achieve your dream.

I am forever thankful for DHN’s support, love, and belief in me. Because of DHN, I am here — on the path to becoming a doctor.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Best regards,

Samikshya
